Asian Championship ends in dramatic fashion in Laos!

The final day of 2007 featured the final leg of the first annual Asian Championship - the Beer Lao Laoded Championship. Held at Youth Garden Golf Club just outside of Vientiane, Laos in sunny, warm conditions, Eagle Klubhead and Dunc Snoughmann motoed to the course only to find that due to there being only one set of left-handed clubs, they would be forced to share a set of clubs but were still required to pay for two caddies, both of whom turned out to be almost useless.

Commencing on the 8th hole, Snoughmann parred to quickly gain one of the five strokes he needed to gain back after his atrocious Vietnam effort. However, the 9th proved to be nightmarish for him as a huge water hazard swallowed one of his shots and almost a second as for the first time ever Dunc had a shot skip across the water to safety. Kannekorne (sorry, KLUBHEAD) finished with an 8 on the hole while Snoughmann earned his first of three double digits on the day with an 11, giving Eagle an early two stroke lead on the day. Snoughmann continued to struggle as Eagle built up a 6 stroke lead, including an impressive chip in for a par on a par 3.

However, Snoughmann knew that his seasoned opponent was capable of faltering - and falter he did. Time after time, Klubhead's terrible play gave Snoughmann opportunities to gain strokes back but he struggled with mediocre play as well. After finishing the back nine, the golfers went back to the first hole and on to the par 4 2nd, ranked the easiest on the course. Both veterans struggled mightily and each scored a 10. At this point, due to a wait on the 3rd tee, both golfers finally got to take a BEER LAO break! On the intimidating par 4 6th, where it was necessary to drive over water AND some trees, Klubhead drove into the woods while Snoughmann smoked a spectacular drive to the 100 yard marker. Klubhead fought with the trees and ended the hole with a 9, while Dunc narrowly missed a birdie putt following a fine approach shot. Having gained 5 strokes on the hole, Snoughmann was fairly sure that if he didn't collapse on the final hole, he would be crowned Laos champion and the Asian championship was also within reach. Dunc bogeyed the par 5 while Eagle double bogeyed and both golfers rushed to the clubhouse to tally the final result.

Snoughmann - 113
Klubhead - 117

Dunc Snoughmann was the winner of the Laos championship but Eagle Klubhead managed a one stroke overall score victory in the three tournaments to win the Asian Championship.

Congratulations to the commissioner!
